The King Island Integrated Renewable Energy Project (KIIREP) will be a world first project in RAPS renewable integration. The project will be developed by the joint venture between Hydro Tasmania and CBD Energy building on the innovation that currently exists in King Island where wind and solar are integrated with diesel.

The new project will expand the existing wind farm and add energy storage from a number of RAPS ESM’s and utilise the heat stores to drive a steam turbine and generator. KIIREP will further expand the use of resistive frequency control techniques to deliver an outcome which reduces diesel consumption by approximately 1.2 million litres of diesel per annum.
